For Practitioners

Register a mark, and stand behind your work

A Practitioner is an individual who does AI implementation work and stands behind it. Practitioners register a personal mark with the Foundation; that mark is struck into every Hallmarked Engagement they build, and accumulates, over a career, into a verifiable record of their craft.

iWhat registration gives you

Registration places three things in your hands. The first is the Mark itself: a personal cartouche, chosen from a closed set of six shapes and struck with one or two serif initials, that is yours within the regime. The second is the public record. Every Engagement you build that passes an Assay carries your mark and is entered on the Register, where it can be read, cited, and verified by anyone. The third is standing: a Practitioner is a named participant in the regime, not an anonymous resource billed by the hour.

The record is the point. A consultancy can describe its experience; a Practitioner can show it, Engagement by Engagement, each one independently certified and permanently attributable. The mark does not expire when you change employer or platform. It follows the work, and the work follows you.

iiThe Practitioner's Mark

The Practitioner's Mark library is a closed set of six shapes. You choose one shape and one or two serif initials; that pairing is your mark for as long as you are registered. The closed set is deliberate. A small, fixed vocabulary of shapes stays legible at the size a Hallmark is struck, and keeps the regime exact rather than decorative.

  • Shield cartouche SH Shield
  • Rectangle cartouche ER Rectangle
  • Arch cartouche MT Arch
  • Oval cartouche JK Oval
  • Lozenge cartouche AW Lozenge
  • Cushion cartouche PD Cushion

The shapes shown carry sample initials only. Two figures stand outside the Practitioner set: the circle is reserved for the Date Letter, and the touchstone for the Assayer. Neither is ever issued as a Practitioner's Mark.

iiiWhat is asked in return

Registration is an undertaking, not a subscription. A Practitioner agrees to a standard of work and to a set of conduct rules, and the mark is the visible sign of that agreement. The work you put forward for Assay is built to be tested: specified against measurable criteria, implemented on fit data and with governance in place, and capable of being verified independently against a Stewarded Standard.

The conduct rules are plainly stated and few. A Practitioner does not misrepresent the scope of a Hallmark, does not claim certification that has not been granted, and does not strike the mark into work it does not stand behind. A mark may be suspended or withdrawn where those undertakings are broken; because the Register is permanent, a withdrawal is itself a matter of record.

ivThe process

In short

How registration runs

Eligibility is confirmed, you choose your mark from the six shapes, you give the undertakings on standard of work and conduct, and the Foundation confirms the registration and records your mark. The full, factual process is set out on its own page.

Read the Register

Every Hallmarked Engagement on the Register carries the Practitioner's Mark of the person who built it. The Register is the clearest account of what a registered mark becomes over time.
